New Wheelchair-Accessible Bus to Serve Seniors Unveiled

On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the COC hosted a gala event for seniors, community leaders, and elected officials to celebrate the acquisition of its new state-of-the-art wheelchair-accessible bus for seniors.

The event was sponsored by Wellcare and was attended by over 50 seniors, community leaders, and elected officials, including County Legislator Aron Wieder, Kerry Rodriguez from the Office of the Aging, Ramon Soto, Community Liaison for County Executive Ed Day, and Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht. Seniors enjoyed a delectable lunch and a full roster of speakers, with several of the senior attendees of the COC program addressing the crowd.

During the event, elected officials were honored with the ribbon-cutting for the new bus, which will transport seniors to and from the COC center. The bus is designed to seat seniors comfortably and is equipped with wheelchair access to ensure that all seniors can enjoy the recreational program at the center.

“We owe it to our seniors, our heroes, to provide them with the ultimate service experience when they come to our center for social opportunity and entertainment,” says Rabbi Horowitz, Executive Director of Community Outreach Center, “and we are excited and incredibly grateful to the Town Supervisor Michael Specht and team for their tireless efforts to obtain the funds to make this happen via a CDBG grant.”

The event was a huge success, with seniors expressing their gratitude for the new bus and, in general, to the COC for filling the needs of the senior population with kindness and dignity.
