Going Green

Community Outreach Center has gone green, and we’re not referring to parks and open spaces.   Rather, COC is leading an eco-friendly initiative to educate the community about the benefits of recycling, and to see first hand what we can accomplish for the environment through small changes in our habits.  In the last 12 months, we have seen an increase of over 18,000 pounds of recyclable material and we continue on the green trend with our efforts to raise the level of environmental sensitivity.

Remedial Education

Every student is entitled to a fair and equal opportunity to receive a high quality education.  The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 raised expectations for all schools, requiring that all students be tested to ensure they meet or exceed state standards.  Community Outreach Center has for many years provided remedial services to dozens of schools in various communities.  We employ licensed and highly qualified staff to offer remediation services for students who are struggling in the core subject areas.  At the close of the 2015-2016 school year, COC had serviced over 3000 students between the ages of 6-17 years old, who will now be successfully mainstreamed after having fallen behind grade level.

Safety Awareness Day

As part of its ongoing safety education campaign, COC held its 6th annual Safety Awareness Day to record crowds including over 1500 children.   Participants received valuable instruction on bike safety from local police officers, including the importance of wearing a properly fitting helmet and other safety tips for riding safely in our crowded streets.   Bicycle helmets and reflectors were distributed free of charge.

COC Community Center - Bringing us Together

Community Outreach Center is pleased to announce a community milestone - the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-use Community Center on Remsen Avenue in Monsey.  This brick and mortar project is well underway and slated for a grand opening in mid of 2017, when we will be able to serve you better with additional training and consultation rooms, and well-designed spaces for the wide variety of programs and services provided to the public.  We see the much needed Community Center as a means of bringing us all together to build an even stronger sense of community, because together we make a difference.

Safety Awareness Activity Book

As a community we are responsible for the safety of our children and for teaching them the skills that will increase their competence to make safe decisions.  With its continued focus on safety, COC has introduced its newly designed safety color activity book that is distributed free of charge.   And, just like the last version, the activity book is packed with practical illustrations and easy to understand rhymes to deliver hours of fun and child-friendly instruction on identifying and negotiating potentially dangerous situations.   It’s our obligation to empower our youth with the knowledge and confidence to make the choices that will keep their world safe.
